Commemoration of the 71st Anniversary of Buddhamonthon
Thailand marked the 71st anniversary of the founding of Buddhamonthon with a series of religious ceremonies held at the Phra Si Sakaya Thosaphonlayan site.
On July 27, 2026, Thailand observed the 71st anniversary of the founding of Buddhamonthon, a significant religious site established on July 29, 1955. According to Khaosod Online, the Supreme Sangha Council appointed Somdet Phra Phutthachan, Abbot of Wat Traimit Witthayaram, to preside over the commemorative ceremonies held at the Phra Si Sakaya Thosaphonlayan courtyard.
The event featured several religious rites, including offerings to the Phra Si Sakaya Thosaphonlayan statue, merit-making ceremonies dedicated to former Supreme Patriarchs, and a tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who served as the royal patron of Buddhamonthon. The proceedings also included prayers and merit-making for those who contributed to the development of the site throughout its history. Representatives from the National Office of Buddhism, government agencies, private sectors, and descendants of the original founders attended the event.
