Sido Thong Muan, Salak Phra Wild Elephant, Passes Away

According to a report from Khaosod Online Thailand, a 50-year-old wild elephant named Sido Thong Muan has died while under the care of veterinary teams. The elephant had been receiving treatment for an injury to its left hind leg since June 29, 2026, after being discovered near Khao Ta Khaeng in the Nong Kum sub-district of Bo Phloi, Kanchanaburi.

Sukhee Boonsrang, Director of the Wildlife Conservation Office, confirmed the death, noting that preliminary findings identified a lung infection and multiple pressure sores as primary factors. The elephant had also suffered from significant fatigue and a reduced appetite due to prolonged periods of lying down. Veterinary teams from the Protected Area Regional Office 3 (Ban Pong) had been monitoring the animal closely, noting a decline in food and water intake as recently as August 5.
