Maha Sarakham Hosts Traditional Bun Samha Festival and Commemorative Amulet Release

Between June 8 and 10, 2026, the Maha Sarakham Municipality, in collaboration with the provincial Cultural Office, hosted the traditional 'Bun Samha' (or seventh lunar month merit-making) festival. The event took place at the Mondop of Phra Prathan Kantarawichai and saw significant participation from local officials, students, and residents.

To mark the occasion, the municipality introduced a special commemorative amulet titled the 'Vitarkamudra Taksila Maha Barami' Buddha coin. The rectangular coin features the Buddha in the Vitarkamudra posture—symbolizing the act of teaching—flanked by two disciples. The reverse side displays sacred yantra inscriptions and text commemorating the festival and the city's blessing ceremony.

According to Khaosod Online, the production of these amulets was strictly limited, with specific quantities minted in gold, silver, alpaca, and nine-metal alloys. Proceeds from the public offering of these items are designated to support the Maha Sarakham Long Drum Association, local cultural traditions, and scholarships for high-achieving students.

For residents and visitors, this event highlights the ongoing preservation of local Isan traditions.
