Researchers have identified a 1.5-year-old tiger cub as the animal responsible for the recent attack on a forest official in Huai Kha Khaeng.
On August 6, 2026, researchers from the Khao Nang Ram Wildlife Research Station confirmed the identity of the tiger involved in the fatal attack on forest official Sakkarin Wichajarn at the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary. According to Dr. Achara Simcharoen and station chief Somphot Duangchantrasiri, the identification was made using data from camera traps installed near the site of the incident.
The investigation revealed that the tiger is a 1.5-year-old cub, one of three offspring belonging to an 8-year-old female tiger named 'Apinya.' Researchers noted that the cub is in a developmental stage characterized by curiosity and learning, suggesting the attack may have been a result of the animal mistaking the official for prey. The research team confirmed that the Apinya family frequently uses the area where the incident occurred.
