Authorities have identified a young tiger as the animal responsible for the death of a park official in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 6, 2026, investigators have confirmed the identity of the tiger involved in the fatal attack on a park official, identified as Mr. Sakkarin. Using data from camera traps, researchers determined that the predator is one of three offspring of an eight-year-old female tiger named Apinya.
Research indicates that Apinya and her three cubs, aged approximately 18 months, frequently traverse the area where the incident occurred. The investigation suggests that the young tiger returned to the site where it had previously hunted. When the animal encountered the official resting in a prone position, it reportedly mistook the human for typical prey due to the elongated shape of the body, leading to the fatal encounter.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights the inherent risks of entering wildlife-protected zones. While the behavior of the tiger was described as a case of mistaken identity rather than predatory aggression toward humans, it serves as a reminder of the importance of extreme caution in wilderness areas.
