Thai Credit Bank Reports 55% Growth in Micro-Lending Portfolio

Thai Credit Bank announced a significant expansion in its micro-lending sector, with new loans rising by 55% in the second quarter of 2026.

According to a report by Khaosod Online, Thai Credit Bank (Public) Company Limited has seen its micro-lending portfolio for merchants reach 21.81 billion baht as of the first half of 2026. Kamonphu Phuridisakul, Executive Vice President of Microfinance and Lending Branches, stated that new loan originations grew by 55%, or 4.13 billion baht, compared to the same period last year.

The bank attributes this growth to small-scale entrepreneurs continuing to invest in their businesses despite high operational costs and fluctuating consumer purchasing power. Field analysis indicates that these merchants are increasingly seeking additional working capital and integrating digital technology into their operations to adapt to the current economic climate.

For residents and business owners in Thailand, this trend suggests a resilient grassroots economy where small entrepreneurs are actively seeking to modernize and scale. The bank emphasizes its role as a partner, providing not only capital but also financial literacy training and marketing support. While these figures highlight a robust appetite for investment among small businesses, it remains to be confirmed how these debt levels will perform if economic volatility persists throughout the remainder of the year. The bank continues to monitor the financial health of its clients as they navigate these challenging market conditions.
