According to a report by Khaosod Online, a Chinese startup named AheadForm has unveiled a new humanoid robot head, the Origin M1, designed to mimic human facial expressions with high precision. Founded in 2024 by Hu Yuhang, an engineer trained at Columbia University’s Creative Machines Lab, the company aims to bridge the gap between humans and machines through natural interaction.
The Origin M1 is capable of performing subtle movements, including frowning, smiling, blinking, and shifting its gaze. These 'micro-expressions' are intended to replicate the involuntary facial movements humans display during communication. While the technology represents a significant advancement in robotics—an area that has historically struggled to replicate human-like emotional expression—the realism of the device has elicited a sense of unease among many viewers on social media.
