Thai Transport Ministry Explores Moscow Metro Model for Rail Upgrades

On August 5, 2026, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn led a delegation of senior transport officials to Moscow, Russia, to study the Moscow Metro system. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the visit follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two nations aimed at enhancing Thailand’s rail infrastructure.
The Thai delegation, which included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and the Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, examined various aspects of the Moscow Metro, including digital station management, automated fare collection, modern train rolling stock, and long-term maintenance cycles. The group conducted technical site visits at the Maryina Roshcha station and the Aminevskoye Electric Depot to observe these systems in active operation.
Minister Phiphat stated that the objective is to identify technologies and management strategies that can be adapted to improve Thailand’s mass transit systems. The focus remains on increasing passenger capacity, enhancing service efficiency, and ensuring long-term safety and cost-effectiveness.
