Vietnam Overtakes Thailand as Southeast Asia’s Second-Largest Aviation Market
Data from OAG indicates that Vietnam has surpassed Thailand to become the second-largest aviation market in Southeast Asia, with Thailand dropping to third place.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, citing data from the global aviation analytics firm OAG, Vietnam has overtaken Thailand to become the second-largest aviation market in Southeast Asia. As of July 2026, Vietnam recorded 7.4 million airline seats, representing a 5.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Thailand, which held the second-place position in June, has slipped to third place with 6.9 million seats, marking a 3 percent decrease. Indonesia maintains its position as the region's largest aviation market, reporting 10.9 million seats, a slight increase of 0.3 percent year-on-year.
For travelers and residents, this shift reflects changing regional connectivity and airline capacity trends. While a change in market ranking does not necessarily imply an immediate disruption to flight availability, it highlights the evolving competitive landscape of the Southeast Asian travel sector.
