Naga Fireball Festival 2027

An annual cultural event in Nong Khai province marking the end of Buddhist Lent, where locals gather to observe the mysterious Naga Fireball phenomenon on the Mekong River.

The Naga Fireball Festival, known locally as Bung Fai Phaya Nak, takes place annually in October in Nong Khai province to coincide with Ok Phansa, the end of Buddhist Lent. Visitors gather along the banks of the Mekong River to witness reddish-pink orbs rising from the water. While the phenomenon's origin remains a subject of debate, the event is a significant cultural gathering featuring local festivities, including stage shows, boat races, and food markets in Nong Khai town, Phon Phisai, and Rattanawapi. Attendance is free. Please note that alcohol sales are restricted during this Buddhist holiday.
