Monkey Buffet Festival 2026

An annual event in Lopburi where over 4,000 kilograms of food are served to the local macaque population at the historic Prang Sam Yot temple.

The Monkey Buffet Festival is a unique cultural event held annually at the 13th-century Prang Sam Yot temple in Lopburi. Established in 1989 by Yongyuth Kitwatananusont, the festival serves as a gesture of gratitude to the macaques that attract visitors to the town. The event features over 4,000 kilograms of fruit, vegetables, and Thai sweets arranged on elaborate tables. The festivities begin around 10:00 AM with a ceremony and traditional dance, followed by the main feast which lasts approximately two hours. Visitors are advised to exercise caution as the monkeys are wild animals.
