Loy Krathong 2026

Thailand's nationwide festival of lights, featuring the release of krathong floats on rivers and canals to honor the water goddess.

Loy Krathong is a traditional Thai festival celebrated on the full moon of the 12th lunar month. Participants release 'krathongs'—small, decorated floats made from banana leaves and trunks—onto waterways as an offering of thanks and apology to the water goddess. The 2026 main night is Tuesday, 24 November. While celebrated nationwide, the Sukhothai Historical Park hosts a notable ten-day festival from 15–24 November, featuring a ticketed light-and-sound show. Visitors are welcome to participate by floating their own krathongs. The event is free to attend, though specific activities like the Sukhothai show or river cruises in Bangkok may require tickets.
