Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival 2027
An annual traditional rain-making festival in Yasothon, featuring parades and homemade rocket launches.
The Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival is a deeply traditional event held annually in Yasothon, Isan. Farming communities build homemade rockets from bamboo and gunpowder to invoke rain from the sky god, Phaya Thaen. The festival spans a weekend, featuring a vibrant parade with traditional music, dancing, and floats on the first day, followed by competitive rocket launches in open fields on the second day. Visitors are welcome to observe this authentic local celebration. Ear protection is strongly recommended for the launch day due to the high noise levels.
