Ferry services to the islands are seasonal, weather-dependent and reduced or suspended during the monsoon months, so anyone planning to live on or regularly visit the islands should check current schedules rather than assume year-round service. A car or motorbike is necessary for anything beyond the town centre.

Satun has a provincial hospital covering general care, with more specialist treatment requiring travel to Hat Yai or further.
