It is best approached as a short-to-medium stay in a genuinely undeveloped setting rather than a place to relocate long-term; the island simply does not have the services that sustained living requires.
Very little choice of area
With only a small number of properties spread along a single main beach, the "choosing an area" question here is really about which resort's stretch of sand and level of isolation suits you, not a comparison of distinct neighbourhoods. Confirm exactly what is within walking distance before booking anything longer than a short stay.
Seasonal ferries and resort closures are common
Many resorts on Koh Kradan close for the low season, and boat services can be reduced or suspended during the roughest weather months. This is one of the least appropriate islands in the region for an assumption of year-round access — verify actual operating dates for any stay planned outside the high season.
No hospital, no real shops, self-sufficiency required
